The easiest way to tell the difference between the Gen 1 and Gen 2 is the fill and drain plugs. The Gen 1 uses allen head bolts with rubber O rings. The Gen 2 uses pipe thread plugs. The Wastland uses a Gen 1 case. The Gen 2 and the Wastland uses a different shift arm that mounts on a round shaft with two flat sides. The Gen 1 uses a shift arm that mounts on a round shaft with splines. The Gen 2 case is a much smoother casting also. The Gen 2 and Wastland are stronger because the gears are heat treated differently than the Gen 1.
