Sounds like a loud clunking every wheel rotation as you take off. Got pulled back to camp and it was still making the clunking sound as we roll....CV maybe??????? hopefully not the rear end........

Re: Loud clunking sound every wheel rotation

I'm going off the old memory here, so "BEAR" with me. Help me out guys, if I miss something.
Check the free play in the rear axels, with the trans in neutral.
Jack up the back end, off the ground. Now turn the axle. There shouldn't be any binding or clunking. If it's tight, then loosen the jamb nuts and extend the 2 tie rods, until it turns smoothly. Tighten the nuts. Measure the rods. They should be the same length.

If you have to much free play, the axle will slip side to side. Tighten the tie rods in until you feel it bind, then back it out 1 to 1-1/2 turns.
You'll need to check both sides.

OK but even though its has been out 4 or 5 times and no noise was present. So that leds me to believe something has broke or is damaged. But I will be checking it out as soon as I can in the next couple of days and will report my finding..

Travis,
Don't forget to pull the drain plug out of the trans and check the oil drain plug for "Hitchhikers" during your inspection if you find nothing else. Also check the drain hole. If it is a timed clunk like you talking about you might have a problem with a gear in the trans(broken tooth). Just a thought but I hope not the case.

Mike

Re: Loud clunking sound every wheel rotation

The axles do slide back and forth between the trans and the wheel hub. It took a little getting used to for me. But if it isn't a "timed" event, that may be your only problem. Mine do it when driving over bumps of all sizes. Make sure they freely slide back and forth, but you may have to roll it a few inches if it's loaded.

Re: Loud clunking sound every wheel rotation

I do know that where it sits now the axles will not move or slide side to side. The sound does seem "timed".....but stay tuned...
