Fox Shocks 2.5

Has anyone looked into this Fox shock model, Fox 2.5?
Its much bigger, and holds a lot more oil. Here's some specs.

With its larger piston area, (20.26 cm vs. 31.61 cm) it wouldn't need as much gas pressure.
Less pressure = Less rebound force
More Oil = Less fading, better damping

2.5" Diameter Race Proven Air Shocks
1-5/8" Shaft
Twice the load capacity of 2.0" Air Shocks
Tunable and fully rebuildable
Available with Black Hardware and a Zinc or Hard Chrome finish

Travel 12.0"
Oil Volume (cc) 515 cc (Fox 2.0, approx 300cc)
Ext. Length (in) 34.65"
Col. Length (in) 22.65"
Shaft (in) 1.625"

I would think it would because the point where it gets tight is under full droop where the arm comes close to the exposed shaft. And the shaft size is the same as the 2.0 (1-5/8). So..........I would think it would work with the stock arms.

Question is whether the mounts eyes are the same size (1/2" bolt size and same width with spacers).

I still wonder if it would/could act like a dual rate coilover. Of course..........you never know until you try.

As an idea, maybe just do the rears with 2.5's. That is where it needs the most help. I will have to think about that!!!

Thats what I was thinking, just replacing the rears. Thats where all the weight is. The 2.0's in the front work fine.

Re: Fox Shocks 2.5

from my point of view.......
I think you are better of with going with fox coil overs....

those 2.5 should cost a least 300 bucks plus tax.... each
but if you are really looking for that improvement its better if you go with fox coilover for 200 bucks more....... (thats my guess) I think they should run around 500....

from my pint of view if you are going to make the change..... make it worth it....
because still with the air shock you are still going to get the fading if you are racing....

what do you guys think?

Re: Fox Shocks 2.5

I don't get fading with my 2.0s whille racing. The car doesn't weigh enough to work them that hard. But I agree that going to coilovers is the best choice. Just depends on what you want to user your rig for and how much you have to spend. If your racing....coilovers without a doybt for the control and tunability. If you trail ride I think 2.0s are fine.

Just my .02 cents

Re: Fox Shocks 2.5

I'm just throwing out ideas here. So what about Kings 2.0?
They are suppose to be a great shock to.

Fox 2.5 and King 2.0 wouldn't take any frame changes. Rear only

Re: Fox Shocks 2.5

Maybe the best of both words, Fox 2.0 coil over Air shock

No frame mod needed and you would get a lot of adjustability. With a coil spring, you wouldn't get the gas pressure spike.

The same 1/2" bolt mounts as 2.0 & 2.5

BODY
Smooth-bore seamless alloy body

VALVING
Tunable velocity-sensitive valving

BEARINGS
Teflon-lined heat-treated alloy
steel spherical bearings

SHAFTS
4130 alloy steel hard chromed

BODY CAPS / EYELETS
6061-T6 billet aluminum
(bump stops have steel body caps)

BODY PLATING
Clear cadmium with clear coat
(Chrome optional)

MOUNTING
Must be run body side up

PRESSURIZATION
Nitrogen gas pressurized to 50-500PSI

Their is a ton of trick things that can be done with the FOX Airs.

Want more oil capacity add remote reservoirs like the stadium lite guys did years ago..
