glen helen short course rd #1 recap from bob beyer race director

First of all, I want to thank the racers and spectators for supporting Round #1 of the Glen Helen Off-Road Short Course Series! I would also like to thank my family, friends and volunteer staff for their continued support and endless efforts to make our Series a success.

The racing was some of the best Iíve seen in 20 years in the sport and 15 years as a promoter! Together we have proven once again that an affordable regional series, right here in Southern California, can produce competitive and exciting off-road short course racing.

The Super S/C Buggy battle between Shawn Gibson and John Holmes was outstanding! It will be a duel that many will reflect on and talk about for years to come. Congratulations to Gibson for a well deserved win. Phil Bollman fought hard all day after his crew spent many hours getting the buggy ready before the event and when the dust settled Bollman was third in class. Myan Spaccarelli, Ken Schertzer, Michael Cohen, Jay Halsey and Tim Compton were all a part of the exciting racing action in Super S/C Buggy.

Reigning Champion in Single S/C Buggy, Gary Williams, put together two consecutive wins and made a strong statement in the opening round. LJ Kennedy (second in race #1) and Kyle Quinn (second in race #2) also had great races in Single S/C Buggy competition. Other strong performances included Jim Sizelove (third place over-all), Joe Giffin and Geoffrey Cooly (finished third in race #2).

Jeff Pechtel from Covington, WA took care of business with two wins in the Pilot/Revolt/Stadium Lite class. Chris Borella finished second both races and Jeff Hildebrandt held down the third place position. Jerry Byerman and Danny Barnett made things exciting to complete the class.
Andy Hill (Class 1), Nick Schons (Champ Truck) and Bryant Layton (Prerunner Mini) are due congratulations for their class wins and great performances!

Iím looking forward to Round #2 of the Glen Helen Off-Road Short Course Series on April 24th!

Thanks again to all of the competitors, your families, your friends and crews for your continued support of our series.
