You likely need to tweak your clutching. Your clutching is probably shifting out too fast and "bogging" your motor down - like trying to peddle your bicycle two gears to high. My Riot actually runs a bit high RPM with my current clutch setup (stock was pathetic - never going over 7K RPM - there's a story there). Now I can stab the throttle from a stop and it hits 8K RPM and will hold that as it accelerates, but start bumping the rev limiter too soon (before I hit top speed). The next run out I'll be tweaking for faster shift out so I can still hit the 8K mark at full throttle, but not bump the rev limiter so easy, if at all...

An awesome clutching book is Olav Aaen's Clutch Tuning Handbook. Everything you want to know about clutching and a bit more

Re: Maximium Safe RPM?

Hey guys, went searchng about how high they rev these motors in the sleds and found a great clutching article. This article seems to de-mystify clutching so I can understand (something I been trying years to understand).
Check it out it may give you guys some clues to more top speed.
From my V-force Kawasaki days, I know others have shaved the sheaves to get the belt to ride a little higher thus gaining gear and secondary speed.

Who knows..............run it to redline, man! Not an issue! :-)
I run it to the chip hits and then let off a little. , that is what I call WFO, right, WFO? I need more gear in mine with the turbo. I have thought about going to 27 or 28 in the rear. Anyone done this? I was also told that the Team primary is larger diameter than the stock Comet. Is this true? I may have to start a new thread about this.

Re: Maximium Safe RPM?

Thanks WFO and Mike. Found out clutch was not modded at HMF so probably is stock. The polaris FST sleds rev limit at 8800 so I'm no longer concerned. Cannot wait for the snow in the woods to melt.

Re: Maximium Safe RPM?

The engine is governed to limit out at 8500. When you hit it you'll know it! The engine will start to cut out.

Re: Maximium Safe RPM?

How high do they rev in the Polaris FST platform?
Could it be the custom HMF fuel controller changed the rev limit?

Re: Maximium Safe RPM?

Your stock tach can be off up to 200 rpms. Chip comes on at 8400 I believe.
