Re: charging shocks

I sent an email to Bel-Ray oil. Here's what I got back.

Jeff,
Thanks for writing in.
Bel-Ray HVI Racing Suspension Fluid is high viscosity index synthetic fluid specifically formulated for rear shocks. We recommend Bel-Ray HVI Racing Suspension Fluid 10W for the Fox Air Shocks.

Re: charging shocks

My set up is just like that except I have a shut off valve after the regulator. Cannot remember what that fitting for the schraeder valve is called but is is worth the $30.00. No air loss at all.

You can adjust several shocks and they'll all have the same setting.

Mike suggested I buy 6 feet of hose, so I can set the bottle on the ground and still reach the shocks.

Power Tank has one.

If you are going to build your own set up definitely pick up the valve that Bearfoot posted a link too. They are really easy to use. I actually got mine from the local Cat dealer. I used an air chuck for a while and then switched over when I found I could order one through Cat. Like Jeff said they are rated at 300 psi so you have to be careful that your regulator is set correctly. A rear shock on a Revolt is 275 psi in the rear from the factory. Not a lot of room for error.

FYI- I bought my gauges at the local welding shop for a little over a $100.

Re: charging shocks

I just went to a local gas (argon, oxygen, acetylene, nitrogen) supplier, bought a tank and regulator, found a hose and chuck that could handle 300PSI. The only air chuck I found was Dixon that showed 300PSI. I would like to add the gauge that mounts to the shock for a more accurate reading but this set up works good. Nitrogen refills are under $15. I use it for my tires too since nitrogen reacts less to heat than air. more constant tire pressures while racing.

Can you please post the setup you use to charge your shocks, where to purchase a link etc.
Thanks CB
