Re: Dual Rear Brake Conversion on Riot maybe i should rephrase my thought..the the foot pedal would still operate all three rotors or four if you did the mod. But then add a hydraulic line lock inline for the rear rotors only from a separate hand lever like the set up used in drifter cars or like an emergency brake that these carts could really use anyway. probably would not be much help in the sand but the in the dirt I would think it could help a lot.. anyway, sorry if I am taking this beyond the original thread…I can't wait to get it out in the sand with some sand tires on it… |

what do you think of the idea of being able to brake with the rear only as an option. maybe to much torture on the belt and clutches? i dont see steering being a problem in the southwest dunes but as seems you would know, in the Northwest were the GOOD dunes are, the tight sand trails in the trees might end up getting a little wider during my visit.. I still like the whole idea of the outboard brake mod but I have some other issues to iron out first. |

Re: Dual Rear Brake Conversion on Riot Sorry, you can't put turning brakes on any Redline. The axles are locked together in the gearbox. There isn't any spider gear type action going on in there. If you jack your Revolt up you will find that both tires turn in the same direction and are locked together. That is why the single rear stock brakes stops both tires. As far as the hubs breaking, not to many of us have ever had a problem, and the stock Redline hubs are the same thickness as the early RZR. A few have broken and they have changed to billet versions. I have a spare in the trailer just in case. |

Re: Dual Rear Brake Conversion on Riot after looking again at the picture it looks like that hub is one of the thicker ones but if anyone is shopping on ebay for hubs there are alot of hubs being sold that are the thinner earlier model..I think polaris (tried) to fix this problem using the thicker material with the 2010 and newer models |

Re: Dual Rear Brake Conversion on Riot maybe a couple of ignorant questions and some useless info but here goes I haven't had the chance to ride in the sand yet with the revolt but have lots of time in on my rzr 800 and have always thought of the idea of steering brakes. with the rzr, a set of good tires and 4x4 on the fly, steering is not a great issue all though there might be a few less scratches on it if I could have turned just a little sharper..I brought this up at the campfire once and got shot down because of the solid rear end action that takes place in the A$$ of these machines., I have had the revolt out on the dirt and gravel a couple of times and basically if into the throttle at all in a corner my buggy goes the direction it is pointed, even with all the dipping in the front end that happens when braking the front does not stick when introducing the throttle to it.. hence my thought of steering brakes with the outboard set up in the rear. and, OR, an emergency brake style line lock to get the rear into a drift easier. i haven''t had much seat time yet so maybe there is need for shock adjustments and others as well but the thought of it all still seems as if it would work good enough to be worth the effort...Any thoughts on this? Has anybody tried it? is there another direction this graduate from an odysey 350 should be looking.. info time-- My rzr is an 08 and I have busted the hubs three times in the same place. they say it is because the early years of he rzr the shaft splines would stick out of the outer side of the hub bearing and that would prevent the nut and washer from making the shaft tight and wear out the inside of the carrier in an oblong shape as to never get a tight fit resulting in the loose fit and more broken hubs..polaris' fix was to inlarge the thickness hub around the spline area and sell a bearing with a larger ID and same OD to fit into the stock carrier.I just order the set for the rzr so have no personal experience to share yet but It will be put to the test very soon. all of my breaks were clean and unnoticable except for the confusing wobble, until the hub was actually removed un like the picture that xrmikey posted that looks like it was twisted in half.. great thread with lots of info |

Re: Dual Rear Brake Conversion on Riot Due to this thread I got motivated... I also posted this in my build thread. This is where I'm at so far. In the present state, zero drag. I still need to mount everything back up & plumb it. Plenty of clearance everywhere .100 between rotor bolt heads & caliper mount bolt heads. .110 between the caliper & back of hub. I drilled & tapped the back of my Fireball hub & mounted up a rotor spacer. I made the wear pads out of 303 s.s. |

Re: Dual Rear Brake Conversion on Riot 2 rear calipers and rotors stop better than 1 rear caliper and rotor. At least mine does. Klemdotter is still in Yuma for the winter so he hasn't tested his yet. Jtap said his stops better too. |
