Re: Big Gun fuel controller and injectors

Thanks Giving was a blast at superstition , it was my second time out in the revolt. I out ran my new lights though I need two more H I Ds if it will handle them . I thought the new 10 in Rigid would be enough I guess I'm blind . The hard pack was really cool in the car it really did well for not having the suspension set up yet , still need a tank and gauge for the shocks.
And oh man this thing can drinks the fuel, 25 gal three days wow not used to that .I'm still playing with programmer by ear on the fly . I have not pulled a plug to see if on the right track or not but it does not pop anymore, so that's a good thing . I use the GPS down Wheeler road with my phone witch is a lot more accurate the the speedo , tire still spinning at 67 mph with more to go if it would hook up . speedo said around 57. My only issue was the clutch getting loader, other then that I'm loving the car and having fun.

Re: Big Gun fuel controller and injectors

Just to add a bit.
I was running on a flat graded road & topped out at 65MPH.
When I added red fuel while it was pinned it gained 7 mph to top out at 72 mph.
I couldn't hit the rev limiter with the 27" tires I am running.
They are the same over all dia. as stock 26" tires.
When I was running 25" tires I was bouncing off the limiter.
I'm gonna try 26" next, but I like how the 27's worked.

Re: Big Gun fuel controller and injectors

Your a lucky one.
I maxed out the big gun & couldn't get close to that.

Re: Big Gun fuel controller and injectors

I was up riding this weekend above Stevenson Washington and was between 200 and 3500 feet and was able to keep the w/b guage between 12-13 I only needed to bump it up one setting at the higher elevation and I have the smaller injectors

Ya the Walbro strikes again! It over leans for altitude and over richens for sea level. You have to have that wide ratio air fuel ratio gauge to know what you have to do with the injectors and the fuel programmer. Without it your lost! You have what you need now to make it work at just about any location. Those who think they don't need this stuff are just fooling themselves.

Re: Big Gun fuel controller and injectors

Just an FYI.
I ran my 09 last week at 2665 ft. in the high desert & with the smaller(low flow) injectors.
I couldn't get the AF ratio below 16:1 at half throttle to full throttle.
I reinstalled the stock injectors and then got it back down to 12.5:1-13:1
The stock ones would get it fattened up to 10.5:1 - 11:1 at 2600ft. maxed out.
I would recommend an altitude cut off at 1200 ft. to maybe 1500 ft. for the low flow injectors.
At home, roughly about 800 ft., the low flow injectors were fine.

Re: Big Gun fuel controller and injectors

Thanks, it does not ping but does have some popping or backfire , again the last 20 min or so before checking the plug was under low rpm minimal just to move it around , it would be running richer around this time period. I would hate to see the plug after running at a normal conditions , I'm sure the plug would look a lot leaner after a wide open run.

Well at any case I'm in stalling the programmer with the stock injectors to rich in it up , not sure if I'll have the AF gauge or not I'll just start off with the base settings and go from there , also trying out a colder plug. Going out for Thanks for Giving and post my findings when I get back.

And possibly low fuel pressure too...

Install a new fuel filter......

Re: Big Gun fuel controller and injectors

Whit is lean.
You should have some color (light brown) on the insulator.
It's not uncommon to have a bit of red there too because of the fuel additives.
I do believe that the stock plug is the right one for the Redline's motor.
Being that this engine is designed to run in the upper RPM's
But if it's pinging it might be something to consider.
Being that these motors have a serious lean out when the throttle is lifted you might be getting a false reading.
Either way, fatten it up before something bad happens.
The best way to know(because we can't run open & cut the throttle & kill the motor to check the plug) is to put an O2 meter on it & check the A/F ratio.
If your running at Glamis you should be running rich due to the over compensation factors built into the ECU.
