Re: Sudden loud ticking noise

Thanks guys, that where I thought the sound was coming from the clutch, that's a relief . I'll dry lube the moving parts witch I do after every wash may help, this is my first cvt of any kind , in karting I've messed around with much smaller clutches and chain but no belts.

What Pilot said...I have a low hour primary on my XL and it already has an obnoxious rattle at idle.

Re: Sudden loud ticking noise

Your noise is probably the primary clutch. They tend to start making a racket as the parts ware. If you had a broken rocker tower you would here valve lash ticking from the valve cover area and your exhaust would also be louder. I'm still not sure why the exhaust gets louder but it is significantly louder. Weber seems to think the same as I do, it is caused by detanation. Too lean of fuel mixture and not high enough octane fuel. The explosion that results in the combustion chamber shocks the valve train like a hammer hitting the rocker tower. If your engine is running fine and you aren't hearing louder exhaust note, your engine is fine. Weber parts are readily available from Randy at Weberpower. com. Every part that Weber makes on the Redline cars is easy to get. One day away for me here in Oregon.

Re: Sudden loud ticking noise

I just started to hear a load knock when motor is at idle but goes away when I rev it a little , any ideas ? I hope its not the same issue (rocker pedestal) I dont have a spare motor. I'm sure parts are not easy to come by with the weber.

It did have a hesitation on the bottom just of idle , my buddy thought it might be throuttle position sensor . The car has under 200 miles on it

Re: Sudden loud ticking noise

My buddy Major Mayhem asked Mark Queen about the broken rocker pedestal and he said that he has seen it happen before so it is not unusual.

I have not heard of it before so its not normal for sure. Everything can fail if stressed enough. Valve train failure is the most common cause of engine failures on most forms of race engines. The high revs take their toll.

Sudden loud ticking noise

Just fixed my loud ticking noise that suddenly started at Florence dunes last weekend. Was running like it had a dead hole and was making a noise like a loose rocker arm. It had over .030" lash on the exhaust valves of cylinder #2. It was a broken rocker pedestal. It broke under the cam so was not visible without removing the cam. Turned out to be a easy fix compared to what I was expecting to find. Its good to have a parts engine!
