easier steering available?

I just got a Riot and the "dealer" modified the steering with a new column and redid the brackets for column to make it easier. This UTV is still a bear to turn? It seems to be binding on the arms from the severe angle of the riot design (arms in front to spindle instead of behind arms to spindle from steering box) Any suggestions or mods available to make it easier while keeping it reliable? Thanks!!

Re: easier steering available?

Look for a post for Electra steer or such on these forums. I'm on my iPhone so I can't surf as easily. I installed an electric power steering on mine and I can turn the steering shaft by hand now with no steering wheel on it!

Re: easier steering available?

That sounds like a set up issue. There shouldn't be any binding.

Wow! does it take HP from the motor or is it just hydrolic or electric? Do you have a riot or revolt? That really sounds like a sweet set up. Thanks!

Re: easier steering available?

Just watched the video on the ELECTRIC "electra steer" unit... Very Cool. I am definitely going to try that. You just never know if the name is representative of the system. (hope nobody thinks I'm an idiot)

Re: easier steering available?

Sorry wessel1 but I was on phone as I said, but that setup is great for me.... Bear Foot is right above as well. Check out your steering in its movement as binding is not supposed to be happening. The steering angles are a bit sharp, but at speed it is much less noticeable. I am only 41, but I am arthritic and the electra steer made the whole world a happy place again!! LOL

Re: easier steering available?

P.S. That unit I have fits a RZR-S and was modified for the Riot. All it took was the double d u-joints and a piece of 1.5 inch angle iron. That and some elbow grease cutting and grinding. If you are welding handicapped, I might suggest your first investment be a grinder and some grade 8 bolts, washers, and lockwashers in various diameters and lengths. It's remarkable how far those few items can take you on your road to fabricating!!

Hey Joe,

This system really works good! I am Ronny's Co-driver in the Best in the Desert series and we are going to put it to the test again in the Silver State 300 this weekend. "300 miles of desert racing". Ronny is on the road headed this way from Texas for the race. Give him a few days to respond. I'll see if we can get you some good pictures of the conversion. I think he bought it for a '09 RZR-S.

Mike
