Riot Long Travel Rear Suspension Conversion

I have not been overjoyed with the ride on the Riot, so I decided to convert to a Revolt style rear suspension. Jtap has done similar conversion on his Riot, however, I decided to go with the Fox Shocks. Pretty much like a Revolt, but a shorter trailing arm design. Here are some pictures of the conversion. Still have to completely dismantle clean paint and reassemble with correct hardware. Going to revalve shocks, add fluid and set ride height, then off to the dunes.

That's pretty neat....I like the ability that gives you to set the camber.

As far as travel goes.....I figured the 16 inch Riot rear travel was limited to the axels.....no matter how you get there (no matter what type of suspension)?

Another thing is the drop in the chassis under the gear box feels like it hits the ground before full bottom out of the shocks.....I never checked this on mine as I never got that far......did you check this?

Cool car!!

Cool car!!

As far as the claimed 16 inches of rear travel, I don't believe it. The actual travel is determined by numerous factors. Swing arm lenth/arc of the movement of the axel, shock length, CV joint bind, axel plunge. I am sure that there are other factors beyond my knowledge. I particularly had an issue with axel plunge with the stock suspension, as I have an RPM transmission and have no inner clip on the axel. It could come out at full droop. This conversion provides 3 inch longer wheelbase longer swing arm travel and less axel plunge. Air shocks give me more adjustment on ride height and chassis height. The car did bottom quite hard on the floor pan under the transmission added chassis height should fix that.
I will let everyone know how all this works out.

Later,
Scott
