street bike engine swap question

Dear guys,

After numerous you tube clips that I watched I have decided that I want to put a street bike engine inside my riot. What brand and size would you guys recommend. I was thinking more like a yamaha r6 street bike engine or a cbr 600 what are your thoughts and where can i get info on such a swap?? I just like the torque and power.

Re: street bike engine swap question

I've looked into this myself not long ago, and for the amount of work/$ and changes necessary to fit the street bike engine, transmission, chains and everything into a riot IMO it would be more efficient to start over or get a car meant for it if you are set on the cbr and shifting. I wanted to do the same badly but decided it made more sense to go with a snowmobile cvt setup since we already use a belt. I bought a riot with 155hp Yamaha apex and its plenty fast for me, so far top speed of 86mph and get to 70 real fast. I would suggest going with a Yamaha apex engine or a nytro would be nice, there is a member swapping one into his revolt.

If you are dead set on a street bike engine, here is one of the few videos I've seen with a street bike nicely swapped into a rzr.

And a link to a vendor that wanted to make a kit for the rzr, but after he said it took them 400 hours to perfect, they scrapped the kit. http://www.rzrforums.net/super-atv/16846-rzr-streetbike-conversion.html

Re: street bike engine swap question

It really depends on how much work you are able to do on it yourself. First off IMO I don't believe there is anyway you will get a street bike engine in there properly without 15k+ into it, and countless hours. As far as an apex I actually bought a riot with the swap already done. I was going to go through it myself until I came across a good deal. But the more I look at my riot apex the more I think I'd be able to do it myself without too much extra fabrication help. Still depending on what extras you want to put in, I'm in the middle of upgrading my transmission to a 2k new rpm box rated to 300hp, putting in big 930cv joints, new 300m axles, and new hubs and brakes at each wheel so I don't have to wait for something to break again. So Still an apex won't be cheap, by the time you would be done my guess would be 8-10k still. But probably easily 5k cheaper then a street bike, and much less work.

I'm learning there is a reason many people end up buying the bigger sand cars when they want to upgrade, damn hard fitting something new in these SxS, but well worth it for trail ability IMO. I currently have my apex riot all torn down in the back end, so if you would like to detailed pics on what was needed I can get you some. I also have an original build thread from the previous owner on a flash drive if you're interested. The builder I've talked to of my riot also stated the owner had dumped about 20k into the riot I bought, so it can really depend on the extras you go with, lots of little upgrades the original owner decided to have done. Hope it helps, would love to see another apex riot tearing it up!

Here is a walk around the previous owner made, shows a pretty good engine compartment shot.
