Re: Trans

Gen 1 has fill and drain plugs that use allen head wrench and have metric threads with rubber O ring seals. Gen 2 has fill and drain plugs that are pipe thread. Gen 1 case is rougher aluminum casting. Gen 2 case is smoother aluminum casting. Gen 1 shift arm stud is round with splines. Gen 2 shift arm stud is round with 2 flat sides. Wastland gearbox uses the Gen 1 case with Gen 2 shift arm. There are other differences inside and out, but these are the some of the easiest to see.

Re: Trans

The Gen 2 is way better. Stronger case and better heat treated gears. You can't find them for sale because they quit making them about 10 years ago. The only gearbox available now that is a direct bolt in is the Wastland. It uses a Gen 1 case and uses gears that are heat treated to Gen 2 specs. They are still selling on Ebay from Wastland for $1450 plus shipping. I have a good friend here in Oregon that has a brand new one for $1350 plus shipping.
