Re: Restoration Started

Well, terrible news. I have poked, pulled, yanked, stretched, banged, beat, hit, hurt, twisted, pried, kicked, jumped on and swore at the axels and they will not budge.

Qualifying statement #1: I have worked on cars my whole life and this aint my first mechanical rodeo.
Qualifying statement #2: the primary was so stuck on the crank I had to cut it off.

I think I'm screwed and will need new axles which pisses me off because they are custom Gorilla and now I need to figure out what size they are and I am sure they are not cheap.

Maybe renegade remembers.

My last attempt involved a Steck axle popper which is basically an air hammer attachment that is big enough to fit around the inner part of the axle and wedge shaped. The air hammer does all the work, or in my case does nothing. It will move in and out slightly, but no amount of force seems to be able to yank it free. I've used every tool I have for this job and nada.

The side with the rotor has no room to work but still wont budge.

I am not super happy.

Re: Restoration Started

I always use two flat bars behind that CV and pop it. both at the same time. try knocking it back on and try tapping around the CV to settle out that snap ring . and did you put anti seize on the spline when last installed, makes a BIG DIFFERENCE.

Re: Restoration Started

Well, after soaking the entire trans in solvent for over a week I finally got the axels out. They both fought me the entire way, right down to the last .25". Oh well they are out and I can move on.

By the way, what picture hosting service is everyone using now?
