2007 - Gen 1 or Gen 2 Tranny

I'm looking at buying a Revolt...

Some that are for sale list "updated transmission". The transmission seems to be the biggest concern as the parts are not readily available and it would be in my best interest to buy a used Revolt that already has an updated / gen 2 tranny.

So - Is there a way to tell if a 2007 Revolt has a Gen 2? Were they even put on cars in 2007, or only in later years like 08 and 09?

Where can you buy those billet clamp breathers / filters people use to increase the oil capability? That seems to be a popular mod.

Thanks in advance!

P.S...Are the outside cases different in the two? Maybe someone can post a picture of the two?

They were not put in the 2007's from the factory, only as a replacement.

There is plenty of info on this forum, just look for it. The gen 2 gearboxes were not put in any 2007 cars from the factory. The case is smoother on a gen 2. The gen 1 case is rough cast like an aftermarket aluminum intake manifold would look (Edelbrock). The gen 2 case was injection mold cast. The gen 1 had all metric fasteners and allen metric drain and fill plugs (so does the Wastland gearbox). The gen 2 has standard fasteners and pipe thread fill and drain plugs. The gen 2 and the Wastland gearboxes are both upgrades from the gen 1. The shift lever for the gen 2 and Wastland is also different (2 flat sides on the mounting stud sticking out of the
gearbox). Gen 1 has a round splined stud for the shift lever. Are you confused yet?

Ha, not confused! and thank you for the explanation. So what's the story with people stating they have the "updated" gearbox in an 07? Did they replace the internals, or put in a gen 2 box?

It looks like the best thing to do with a gen 1 is replace the bearings and seals (per one of the threads on here) and install the "breather" to allow you to put more oil in the case.

If you were guys were not in a hurry to buy one, would you wait for an 08 / gen 2 car?

Thanks!

No, The chances of finding that combination are like nearly impossible. If you find a deal that you like for an '07, get it and then buy a spare transmission. Jtap or Pilot on the forum has an almost new transmission by Wasteland for sale. You might want to move on the spare transmission even before you get a car.. Just food for thought.

Re: 2007 - Gen 1 or Gen 2 Tranny

Klemdotter is right about finding a car that came with the gen. 2 gearbox. I've never seen one that came from the factory with a gen. 2. Most of us that have these Redline cars have a spare gearbox or have a gen. 2, Wastland, or RPM box in our car. The gen. 1 will hold up for most people in a Revolt. The heavier XL or the Riot will probably not last long. There are still some gearboxes for sale but they are few and far between and soon will not be available to the public. Then the RPM (more expensive and stronger) will be the option. The breather tank for the gearbox and the engine oil tank are a must have. They keep more oil in the gearbox and keep the engine oil out of the air intake plenum. I keep telling people I have never broken a gearbox but I have a gen. 2 in my car and I have a spare gen.2 and a spare Wastland. I'm good for a long time I think. If you buy this Revolt, find a spare gearbox to buy also.
