New XL exhaust

OK, new to me anyways! Almost finished with an exhaust install consisting of a custom header built by Pilot, new flex joints and a Muzzy carbon fiber muffler. The Muzzy has a nice solid "thump" to it. Hoping for a full test this weekend in Florence with the Oregon gang

Special thanks to Whynot for the welding/fab skills!

Re: New XL exhaust

What is the exhaust muffler from? IE: Application. Just in case I want to swap out my BigGun for something a little quieter........the packing is slowly losing it's effectiveness in mine. And as I get older, I get more and more annoyed with constant loud noises!

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.......who's bringing the chips?

Re: New XL exhaust

Four by nut,
Try this next time you pack your muffler. Wrap the core with medium, 434 Stainless Steel wool. Do not use fine. Install it, so that the stainless wool, comes in contact with the hot exhaust first. Then wrap the glass packing around it. My muffler is packed with all SS wool no glass.
It can take the heat and wont blow out. It protects the glass fiber from being blown apart.

DO NOT USE REGULAR STEEL WOOL!!!! One spark and it's a total melt down!!

I have no idea what the muffler is from - it was an eBay purchase. It's an 18" Muzzy carbon fiber with a 2" inlet (if that helps). We cut it down to 15" long for ground clearance.

Hoping (or Hopping ) that the carbon fiber holds together Frogger! I've already re-modified the mount at the collector to allow for a bit more "flex" back there...

Fresh packing in the muffler, gauges and fuel controller installed...hmmm, ready for NOS??

For anyone that may be interested there are 2 more sets of these headers that I built that are for sale. They both need the upgraded turbo flex joints to be installed. Klemdotter wants $200.00 for his as is. Frogger also has a set that need the same and I don't know how much he wants. Neither have the turn down that would need to be fabricated. You can PM these guys directly. I do have the brand and part no. for the flex joints needed to make these work. Easy-E can tell you how they work. I am not interested in doing any of the work on these. If you or a friend can weld its an easy job. Thanks, Pilot

Re: New XL exhaust

Added a crossover tube in the header and an exhaust hanger on the heavy side for shock support. The crossover has smoothed out the exhaust note considerably...can't wait for the next ride!
