Got the Riot fired up and have been driving it around a little. I have maybe an hour on it. It has sat for over a year. It ran strong this first hour, including full throttle assaults. But just now it started to have issues.

When I first got it running, when turning on the ignition, the fuel fuel was REALLY noisy. I'm used to a noisy fuel pump in a Redline, but this is really high pitched and so noisy that I can hear it over the motor!

In addition, just recently, the engine runs really weak anything over 4500rpm. And if I keep it floored, it nearly kills the engine.

As for idle it is running slow and then it will pickup and then run slow......and all the time the fuel pump keeps changing tone slightly up and down. But always noisy.

Fuel pump issue? Fuel filter clogging things? Do these fuel pumps just die off right away or do they act like this as they are dieing?

Yes we had this issue with our revolts, there is NO fuel filter before the fuel pump so it clogs up with crap that goes in to your tank. Remove the pump and clean it out with some high pressure air, if you manage to get it clean you will find it wont be noisy any more. Prior to installing the clean fuel pump be sure and put a filter between the tank & pump and you wont have this problem again. You will probably see signs of the the engine running hot/lean from trying to get it to go with a blocked fuel pump in the way of the mid pipe having a slight colour disfiguration, dont continue to run your machine with a blocked fuel pump- could blow it up !!!

did you drain your tank before you filled it up and mixed it with fuel that has been sitting for a year?

They are the exact systems we had with Baz's revolt , we replaced the fuel pump and problem solved. Like Mick said if you clean it out with high air pressure you shoud be able to save it , and then put a fuel filter between the tank and fuel pump it wont happen again.

Yeh I put the fuel filter between the tank and the pump and havent had the problem since, just make sure its a high flow filter I got mine from the local bike shop.

I've changed my filter once and I think I'll do it again soon. I was surprised, at how fast they clog up. I used an inline automotive filter. Bigger is better.

Yup, I am.

I put an in line filter also, The RZR needs 39psi fuel pressure to run right, I think the weber is the same as far as fuel pressure requirements go. Easy to check if you put a "T" in the line and a cheap pressure gauge...........it should hold at 39 to 43 psi at all rpm

Pulled the fuel pump tonight. Dumped about half a teaspoon of sand out of it!!!! I blew it out real good and used some card cleaner to flush up inside and drain out anything else. Hooked it back up, turned the key and had to put my hand on the damned thing to know if it was even working. And it was! So damned quiet I can barely hear it now!

Rig runs great now. And I can't hear the pump running at all!!! Next step is to get a fuel filter in place between the tank and pump. I had no idea that much crap could get in there!!! Whenever I have built rock crawlers and stuff I always put a fuel filter before the pump and another before the engine. Strange Redline didn't do it this way knowing that these types of rigs would spend a lot of time in the desert and in the sand.
