Re: oil blowing out top oil canister

Hard to say from your description exactly what is wrong. From what you wrote, I doubt it is a common issue. There were issues with the oil line that goes from the oil cooler to the reservoir (2 of them, I think). But that was in the 2007 models for sure, not sure about 2008's. I suspect those are good.

You should look to make sure the dip stick top is tight. Do you know how to check the oil level? Per the manual, you let the rig idle for 40 seconds, shut it off and check the oil level right away.

I want to say there is a breather out the top that goes somewhere. I replaced mine by routing it up higher and put a large filter on the end. I want to say it used to go into the intake plenum. Since I removed my plenum, I had to run the breather.

Something I did notice taking my intake plenum off was there was some oil down in hte bottom, likely coming from the oil breather.

In general, though, I race hard and have run the dunes hard..........I have had a touch of oil on top of the reservoir, but nothing significant.

Check you dipstick and make sure it is tight and is sealing. Was it a lot of oil or just a coating?

Re: oil blowing out top oil canister

It very easy to over fill the reservoir with oil. I hate to admit it, but when I first got mine, I did.
I pulled the dip stick and didn't see any oil on the end. So I added a Qt. I checked it again, still no oil. In went another Qt. Then It showed and so I started it. With 5 Qts. of oil, in a 3 Qt system, with the cap off, it went all over the place. I had to pump it all out and start over. I felt so stupid.

I since, installed a separate breather now and use 3 Qts. of Mobil 1 15w - 50.

So I wold recomend you do an oil change, so that you know how much oil is in there.
