way too rich

hey guys! i just installed two clamp on k&ns with outerwears. i also made a new exhaust using a flowmaster hushpower muffler. this things sounds great. i already had a big gun juice box. i added a innovate a/f guage and wideband sensor. my problem is that it is running rich. i tried to take fuel out with the juice box but still too rich. so i disconnected the box. im still running somewhere around 11.7 to 1. im looking for 13.2 to 1. i installed the sensor about 3 or 4 inches from the header. i dont know what else to do.

Re: way too rich

Had the same issue with my XL. Installed lower flow injectors and no issues with my AFR now.

You can also install an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to lower fuel pressure and get similar results.

Easy-E is right on the money. That fuel programmer that you have can only add fuel above stock and that isn't what most of these cars need. You'll have to figure out a way to lean out the mixture. Smaller flow rate injectors is the cheapest way to go. You can also go with a programmer that can take fuel out using a lap top computer. With the smaller injectors then you can add fuel back if needed with the programmer you have now.

Re: way too rich

there is a nipple on the fuel pressure regualtor. should there be a hose connected to it? maybe that is why it is running rich, i tried cleaning the map sensor still no luck. sometimes it is running 10.5

Re: way too rich

That nipple is for turbo applications - just leave it capped off. It's your injectors. Both mine and Whynot's XL's ran that rich prior to installing lower flow injectors. Now we can run a couple lights up on the Big Gun Fuel Controller with perfect AFR and still have downward adjust-ability for high altitude riding.

The injector you want is a Bosch 0280155740.

There is a chance your stock pressure regulator is putting out too much pressure causing your rich condition, but you'll need a fuel pressure gauge to know for sure.

Also, we've found they run best around 12.6-12.8 AFR.

The injectors can be found cheap via eBay, just search the number I provided. An adjustable fuel pressure regulator will help but you'll need to bypass the stock unit. Your easiest and cheapest bet is to get a set of reman injectors (usually $20 ea) and be done with it.
