Riot motor questions

Dear All,

As you know I have just bought a riot and had a couple of questions.

Is the motor normally very loud?
Is it normal that the riot doesn't move until you are at 4000 rpm and almost feels like its forcing to go forward no low end, and doesn't really rip but at 7000rpm and up.

Can someone explain me how the motor works since I am not familiar with these type of engines.

Also how can i make the noise sound less when you are riding, since it sounds really loud.

Thanks!

Re: Riot motor questions

I also am getting only about 20 miles out of a full tank. Does anyone know why this is?

Re: Riot motor questions

I cant answer the fuel mileage question since I have the lighter weight Revolt but these engines are really loud and it is normal that the clutch doesnt engage until around 4,000 RPM. Also these engines generate most of their power in the higher RPM range. When racing mine runs mainly in the 6,500- 8,000 RPM range.

Thank you Red Rock powersports, Harmon Racing Cells, Blackmore Sign's and T's, Psychoholic Racing, Lucas Oil Products and 777 Race Cars.

There is a problem. I would check the MAP sensor. It's located on the intake manifold, on the cross over tube. It's very common for them to be disconnected. Make sure the connector is pushed in.

If it is unplugged, the ECU will make the engine run very rich. You may smell unburned fuel in the exhaust and it won't idle well.

New MAP's are available from Red Rock Powersports.

Is the exhaust loud? or is it engine noise?

Re: Riot motor questions

The engine is very loud and sounds like a huge pay loader or volkswagen engine but it seems to force alot at 4-6k rpm.. also when a let off the gas it decelerates really quick.well i know its a valve and not a two stroke however is that normal?

Check your primary clutch. If there is wear in the weights and buttons they will rattle and make noise. It will make you think that the engine is making excessive noise.

If you want the car to move sooner at a lower rpm add weight to the clutch weights. The Riot comes with two 37 gram and two 39 gram weights in the primary clutch so if you change to four 39 gram weights the car will move sooner at a lower rpm. Just that change will change the rpm by about 500 rpm and make it more drivable at low rpm. It will reduce the high rpm also which might affect the high rpm power for the worse so you might not like it. Does your Riot have an after market air intake or exhaust? Both can cause more noise than the stock set up. Everybody thinks these cars are loud when your in the drivers seat. You are very close to the engine and if you are not wearing a helmet the high operating rpm range of these engines is loud to the exposed ear.

Re: Riot motor questions

Thanks Pilot. I learned something new. I did not know or ever hear that you can offset the weight like that on the clutches. Makes sense on a four arm like the Comet. I guees you cannot do that on the 3 arm of the Team do to balance.

If you're going by your fuel gauge, the gauge on my Riot was not accurate at all. When it was on "E" I had several gallons of fuel left. The Riot has an 8.5 gallon tank. How much fuel are you putting in when showing empty?

Also, the speedometer/odometer is also not accurate (reads low), so you can't judge miles-per-gallon on that either...

It sounds like GPS is the only way to measure MPG
