correct check engine light operation?

hello all. i just recently picked up a 07 revolt. love it so far. i have noticed in the little i've ran it, it appears the c.e.l isn't working correctly. basically what it's doing is anytime the switch is on, the light is lit but very dimly, it pretty much has to be inside with dim lighting or dark outside to notice it's on at all. it does not come on and go off on key up like a automotive system does so i'm just curious as to what it should be doing, in a normal, fully functioning system. also, how would one go about scanning for codes should it trip one? i've got access to automotive scanning equipment but i'm sure it'll be completely worthless on the redline. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I takes a special software and cable to hook up your laptop to it. If you are interested in having you own you can PM me.
