Maximium Safe RPM?

Went for maiden voyage today. Found out there is still 2 feet of snow packed on the trials from the snowmobiles. Not fun with the Revolt. Only went in the woods about a half mile before we had to turn around and racked up 4.5 miles on speedo. Was impressed with how well it went forward and backward in the deep snow.

Anyway, on a couple uphill dry stretches it seemed it was close to shift out(rpms quit climbing) and it was reving 8300-8400 at about 55 miles an hour and still pulling hard.
Is this too high? It felt like it was just getting to the sweet spot!!!

A forum search yielded few results except 8000 as max rpm.
Spinning hard barely moving thru the snow was 7000 rpm with about 1/3 throttle left.
I will call Hans @ HMF Monday and ask him about the clutching work he did.
Please advise. Thanks

Re: Maximium Safe RPM?

Your stock tach can be off up to 200 rpms. Chip comes on at 8400 I believe.

Re: Maximium Safe RPM?

I used to run my Revolt from 8k to 8300 all the time. No issues. I can't seem to get my Riot past 8k. I had heard they are supposed to be rev limited to 8k by the computer.

Who knows..............run it to redline, man! Not an issue! :-)

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.......who's bringing the chips?

Re: Maximium Safe RPM?

How high do they rev in the Polaris FST platform?
Could it be the custom HMF fuel controller changed the rev limit?

Re: Maximium Safe RPM?

The engine is governed to limit out at 8500. When you hit it you'll know it! The engine will start to cut out.

Re: Maximium Safe RPM?

Thanks WFO and Mike. Found out clutch was not modded at HMF so probably is stock. The polaris FST sleds rev limit at 8800 so I'm no longer concerned. Cannot wait for the snow in the woods to melt.

I run it to the chip hits and then let off a little. , that is what I call WFO, right, WFO? I need more gear in mine with the turbo. I have thought about going to 27 or 28 in the rear. Anyone done this? I was also told that the Team primary is larger diameter than the stock Comet. Is this true? I may have to start a new thread about this.

Re: Maximium Safe RPM?

OK. So that means I run out of HP before I run out of RPM because I haven't heard mine cut out. DAMN! Guess I'm gonna have to do the turbo now!

Re: Maximium Safe RPM?

Hey guys, went searchng about how high they rev these motors in the sleds and found a great clutching article. This article seems to de-mystify clutching so I can understand (something I been trying years to understand).
Check it out it may give you guys some clues to more top speed.
From my V-force Kawasaki days, I know others have shaved the sheaves to get the belt to ride a little higher thus gaining gear and secondary speed.
