Re: Upcoming Whiplash Race at Cinders in Flagstaff
Got back yesterday from the race just outside of Flagstaff, in the Cinders OHV area. Whiplash put on a good race, although the course markings were tough to follow most of the time.
Unfortunately, there was a nearby forest fire that forced them to have to cut the 25 mile loops down to a 10 mile loop. But they ran the race for 2 hours, so distance wasn't a question.
For those of you that have never been to the Cinders, the entire area is a lot like the dunes, except there are trees, and instead of sand, it is like kitty litter. Black kitty litter. Due to it being like sand, and that it is a public OHV area, the entire place is mostly whoops!!!! Little ones, big ones, wide ones, short ones, etc, etc, etc.
There were 22 UTVs set to race. I was registered in the Pro-modified class. I started 5th with 30 second seperation between each person to start. By the end of the 1st lap (about 18 minutes) I was right behind the first rig to start! I quickly passed him and never looked back. I eventually won (7 laps) by 11 minutes. I was about 2 minutes faster than the next fastest UTV.
It was a great race and the Revolt did awesome.
Broken parts were:
Bent upper A-arm heim at knuckle (Ran into a tree stump!)
Bent steering heim at knuckle (happened as same time as above)
Ripped CV boot (pretty sure I hit a root sticking up)
Exhaust broken from rig (fell off and I ran 1 hour open exhaust!!!)
