First race in mex.

Hey guys, just wanted to share my mini story. so the forum doesn't look lonely.

So I had my first race two weekends ago in Mexico at Mexicali. It was a Desert Night Race, the course was 12 miles each lap, and the race was 4 laps total.

The last couple of minutes before the start of the race it was all nerves and anxiety. Quads and dirt bikes also competed in different categories. we were all lined up waiting to hit 8pm to start, while the sun came down. the dirt bikes categories started first, then after a couple of minutes the quads were released.... then utvs were going to be next.

Utvs were lined up ready to start and I a lot of things going trough my mind all craming up at once. then sudenly the flag is dropped, everybody is pedal to the metal and I take the lead in the revolt, # u18. all of my toughts suddenly cleared my mind, and I only had one tough..... to finish the race.

I keep the lead for about 4 miles then sudenly I noticed I couldnt see any track signs, I was going off course. I had lost my track.... Lol...

Then I look around and I see the lights of a RZR, that had now taken the lead. I start racing to get back to track and catch up with the popo...

I finally catch up and keep close behind him for about 5 miles more. then sudenly another RZR is behind my back.... and all 3 of us are pushing hard....

we end up catching up to some quads and passing them.... but the quads were making it a bit more difficult because they were kicking up a lot of dirt and and there was one that wouldnt let me pass.... (I guess he couldnt believe that we were catching up to them).... during the strugle of trying to pass that quad..... i loose sight of the rzr that was taking the lead...

I end up passing the quad with the other RZR behing my back.....

then suddenly in a rocky section I catch up with the one that had the lead.... but he is still in front of me....

we are going with everything we got.... (If my speedo was right,y everytime I looked at it, it was between 45 - 50 .......) then we get to a strait section that was about 2 miles long with no turns only hills.... and i tough, "this is my chance".... but the lead RZR just keept pulling away from me....

then we catch up to another quad.... and in my attempt to pass it, I came very close to the edge of the hill, and it scared the crap out of me.... because I hadnt seen the edge.... and came very close to going down the incline...

so I decided to slow down and keep it at a safe pace...... and thats when the rzr that was behind me passes me.....

I complete the first lap..... and the whistling and encouragements of the people in the main checkpoint makes me feel like steeping on the gas again....

after 3 miles of the first lap I start to catch up to the rzr that was in 2nd place.... and I give it more gass....... and while getting ready to pass the rzr.... a gigantic rock pops out of nowhere (I didnt have time to dodge it because I saw it at the last moment with all the dirt that was kicking up the rzr...) and BAMMMMM...... It ends up hitting the lower front right arm of the revolt........ and hoping that it didnt cause any big damage, I decide to continue.....

I get ready in position again to attempt to pass the rzr, and while im passing the rzr I notice that my rear starts buckling badly..... I keep on going and pass the rzr and the rear starts getting worse......

then I start to feel that my rear is seating lower.... and its buckling really bad.... I slow down.... the rzr passes me and I pulled over....

I get off the car.... and inspect the rear....... and I notice that my left rear shock was leaking all the oil!!!!

the rear was all the way down and was almost hitting the ground....

I had to drive it back to the main check point to load it up.... ad didnt end up finishing the race....

-----------------------------------------

the next day I take a look at the car and find that the huge rock had hit my front arm where the shock is holded.... and it hit so hard that it end up bending the arm......

then took of the shock and inspected it..... it had a big dent in the shaft (most likely caused by a flying rock)..... and what happened is that the dent in the shaft ended up tearing the seals in the shock, and thats why it leaked all the oil.....

so thats my mini story.... that turned out into a huge story...... hope you enjoyed it.... I was going to post it earlier but I was waiting to find the cable of my camera to put the pictures.... but I cant seem to find it.... so I will post the pictures later....

tough I attached some pics from a website, that were taken... hope you enjoyed my story......

p.s. currently the shock is getting repaired at the shop and we are working on fixing the front arm....getting ready to beat the rzrs next month at the next race....

Re: First race in mex.

Im thinking about adapting some plastics like the ones that the dirt bikes use on their front shocks, to the revolt..... to try to keep this from happening again......

or should I put some of the shock rubber plastic boots that some shocks use..... which do you guys think I should use?

something like these..........

Great story! Are you from Mexico? Or from here? And where was the race?

I'm gonna take your lesson learned on the shock shaft and get some covers for mine!!!! I do carry a spare to the track just in case. But..........better to not have the problem to begin with.

Re: First race in mex.

I had a similar shock problem with my shocks while running at outlet center in Barstow CA. Parked the Revolt and saw oil all over the left rear. Then looked closer and heard the Nitrogen leaking. Fox will rebuild them for pretty cheap. As far as the plastic paint goes I used some Satin Black Fusion paint and it is holding up pretty good.
