Indestructable (?) Skid Plate

Well................I quickly had destroyed the stock skid plate in the rear (maybe 1 race???). I replaced it with a 1/2" plastic version from folks on this forum. This worked well for about a year, but it eventually fell apart. So..........time to make it even stronger!

Here are some pictures of what I put together last night. It's 1/4" steel with countersunk bolts attaching it to the frame. I was able to bend up the front edge by cutting a series of slices across it and this wacking it with a hammer several times. It came out really well and took about an hour to build. I'll let you all know how it holds up!

Re: Indestructable (?) Skid Plate

I guess I should have mentioned that I made this with the use of a cutoff wheel on a grinder, a hand drill, and about an hour of time! Total cost = $2.75!!! Steel was a piece I had laying around. Went through one cutoff wheel triming it all down.

A concern I had with the plastic (stock or otherwise) is that it was allowed to deflect up and contact the bottom of the transmission. And based on the cost required to replace a transmission..........I look at that as if I have a brick of gold in the back of my rig! So I'm all about protecting that sucker!

I have a piece of 4130 plate. Think I might have found a good use for it. Broken trans!!!
