Stay Hydrated ! ! !

I started this thread, because there was a discussion starting about Hydration and ummm.... how to get rid of water too.
I got heat exhaustion once, riding the dunes. Let me tell you, it messed me up. I was so weak, I couldn't shift my Quad. I thought I was a goner.
The best mix I found is Gatorade mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with water. Straight Gatorade will slow the adsorption of water, due to its high sugar content.
I strap a Camelbak, 100 oz back pack on the side, of my Revolt. That gives me 100 oz (2.96 L) of water. Drinking through the hose works great, because I can get it under my helmet.

Post your ideas. How do you carry water for riding?

Re: Stay Hydrated ! ! !

Before I started my own company, I actually drove a service truck myself. I sale cold water in hell for a living!! LOL, no really I own an Air Conditioning company in Texas, but close enough!! On a hot asphalt roof temps on a 105 degree day can top 130 degrees and I have personally worked in an attic that was 147 degrees. I learned this trick from older and wiser dudes...

Take an electrolite tablet and follow the directions!! You can find them in any health food, vitamin store. The old timers took a straight salt tablet, but that has its own risks. I will be carrying my trusty bottle with me in the lohg hot races!! Basically you get the equivalent of 100 bottles of Gatorade for the cost of a couple. However, that doesn't do away with the need to drink plenty of water!!

Re: Stay Hydrated ! ! !

on long rides I also use my Camel pack. I freeze part of it and put the small Gatorade or Powerade bottle in the zip up part. In MSHA ( Mine Safety and Health Administration) training they say you should alternate water, Gatorade,Water, Gatorade Etc.

I never thought of freezing it. Good idea, I'll try it!

Re: Stay Hydrated ! ! !

I admit my retarded moment here!! Mike and others have mentioned the camel back several times...... In my infinite mental superiority I just couldn't figure out how in the heck you wore a camel back and drove a car?!?!

Thanks for the picture!! Hope you enjoyed my moment of brutal honesty!!

Remember: "Yes, sometimes the stupid question is the one you actually asked!!"

Re: Stay Hydrated ! ! !

Mike,

Luckily I only have to do the 8 Hr courses now. The 24 hr class was no fun. since my sales territory is mainly in the high Desert hydration is important with Summer temps over 100 on a regular basis.
