Default Cracking in brake discs

Hi guys, I am in the process of doing a maintenance strip down and I have discovered that both my front brake discs have a small crack in them. I called Mick to check his and he too has discovered a similar problem.
Has anyone else had this happen and if so is there a better product that fits?
I will have some laser cut then zinc coated if there isnt a better quality item available and depending on how often a problem it is will depend on how many I have made.

Where on the disc is the crack located? Do you have a picture of it?

Hi Mike, The cracks are on the lower radius of the weave.

Im not overly concerned that they have cracked as I consider them a consumable ,but I am interested in seeing if anyone has come across it before and what was the best fix.
Dan

It looks like the crack is tied to a hot spot in the disc? Do all the cracks go to similar spots? And is the crack mirrored on the back side of the disc too?

I haven't seen this before myself, but are you guys using heel stops for your feet? I found that without them I had a tendency for my left foot to end up on the brake pedal to rest while I was on the gas. Consequently brake drag would happen which would result in increased heat and excessive brake wear. I could see this as a potential cause for this condition.

Mike

Hi Mike,
Mate to answer your question the disc is cracked right through and I do run heal stops ( Mick doesnt because he can barely reach the pedals with his short legs ) and they are all cracked in the same place. I am sure your right about it being a heat related issue as we do give the brakes a real workout in the bush and with the lack of response it appears that it maynot be a common problem.
Like I said I will get some discs lazer cut aswell as some spares for stock and if I need to replace them when I replace the brake pads so be it.
Cheers Dan

Dan, what material will you have them cut from?

" Mick doesn't because he can barely reach the pedals with his short legs". Now this is just blatant Mick abuse!
