You know it is interesting that when we dump the oil out of a gear box or an engine that we sometimes assume that if it looks like enough came out and there are no what I call hitchhikers or UFOs that all is well and we fill them back up and go again until the next time. You never think about actually measuring what came out and without seals leaking you wouldn't even think about it. If they were, you would already expect it to be low and pay greater attention to it and/or repair it immediately . The original vent hose extends through the belly pan so you don't see a build up in the pan and if any comes out it ends up on the ground (dirt/sand). I just drained mine and I measured 7 oz. Went back with a syn gear lube and will be relocating the vent hose.
I have to agree with you guys based on the posts regarding this subject and the oil change in my own machine, that there is more than just a little trans case pressure coming out the vent hose. The fix with this trans vent design is to get the vent hose up above the trans case so any oil that goes in the hose drains back in the case.
Jay (four by nut), post a picture of you billows system and Jeff (Bear foot), post and picture again with this post of what you did with the canister system and filter.
Travis, I am sorry to see you lose a trans. What a bummer! Got an idea though that could help you out. I'll call you.
