Default New Years at Wagon Wheel

Happy New Year everyone! Had to report on how the new Riot did on our New Years trek to Wagon Wheel. But first let me say this. I don’t race. Have little clue about adjusting shocks. Drove only sand rails and quads but now need something with a cage for this 50 year old body. We just like to go out and have fun. And this Riot did not disappoint. The ride around the campsites was smooth and the steering at slow speeds was like that of an older sports car. The only thing missing was beer, uh, cup holders. Have those on order now. Friday morning we took a trip to see the mines. Climbing hills and even the mountain trails was no problem. Dirt, gravel, sand and pretty much everything else you could drive through we did. And speed, this thing hauls booty. Steering was easy at high speeds. Surprising maneuverability and control going 50mph through a dry riverbed. It felt like hydroplaning but with full control of the steering. It was awesome! But watch out for big rocks. I damaged my skid plate. This 20 mile trip in the Riot was nothing but fun and excitement. That afternoon, we headed for the Trona Pinnacles. Again, a great ride but this time I lost the whole back portion of the skid plate. Hey, I wanted to test this thing. I drove it a little hard…OK a lot hard. This trip was 40 miles. And this time the Riot PROVED what it was worth. To make a long story short, we got lost. Yes we had a map. But it doesn’t do any good if the guys reading the map can’t tell the difference between a trail and a paved road. I think the only thing we got right was the railroad tracks. Anyhow, we’re at the bottom of this mountain on the side of a paved road looking for a trail that’s supposed to parallel the road. When just then we see two $80,000 sand cars come down this mountain. Hey, that must be the trail. So my buddy Scott takes off up the trail first on his Raptor and he fought it most of the way because it was quite steep. Now it’s my turn. I hit the gas and the Riot flew up that trail no problem. When I got to the top, I realized then the Riot was the right investment. I can’t wait to take this thing to the dunes. Anyhow, you can see pics of our Wagon Wheel trip here.

Don’t have any pics of the trail I climbed. We were too busy trying to get back to camp before sunset. One more thing, the HIDs are great for night driving. Plenty of light to see the trails.

I have never taken my Revolt to Wagon Wheel, but I drive by it for work all the time. It looks like a lot of fun out there with all the hills and rock formations.
